Plaintiff, a law firm practicing as a general partnership in Virginia, two of its partners (Watt and Newell), and an associate (Joyce), appeal from judgments of the trial court finding all of them in punitive contempt of court for their failure to engage Colorado counsel to represent them and imposing monetary fines upon each of them for such contempt. The court's findings were grounded upon its Conclusion that the Virginia partnership was a legal entity which could not appear either pro se or through any of its partners in the courts of Colorado. Because we disagree with the trial court's basic premise as to the nature of a general partnership under either Colorado or Virginia law, we reverse and remand the cause to the trial court for its reconsideration.
